Betty Belden Palmer
December 9, 1926 - December 15, 2007
It is with great sadness we mourn the loss of Betty Belden Palmer on Saturday, December 15th. Born Betty Boehmke in Inwood, Iowa, to Esther and Paul Boehmke, she moved with her family to Long Beach at the age of ten. A graduate of Long Beach Poly, she received her B.S. degree from San Jose State and Masters Degree from Stanford. She taught physical education at Excelsior High School, Norwalk CA from 1950-1956.
Betty married Wayne Belden in 1951 and moved to (Tustin) Orange County. An avid sportswoman, she was owner of and golf instructor at Santiago Golf course. Wayne passed away in 1977. She married William Palmer in 1981 and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Betty’s life has been one of volunteerism and invaluable service to Orange County, serving many charitable organizations and many times chairing their boards. She was the recipient of many awards from these organizations for her outstanding leadership.
She leaves daughter Cindy Jensen (Dennis) of Honolulu, Hawaii and son Paul Belden (Lisa) of Orange, granddaughters Kimberly and Alicia Davis and grandsons Mathew and Joseph Belden. Also, her twin sister Beverly Gardner of Hemet.
Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange on Thursday, December 20, at 2:00 p.m.
