THAT’S DEBATABLE:

Former Sen. George Mitchell last week released his long-awaited blistering attack on Major League Baseball and its handling of performance-enhancing drugs in the sport.

The report of rampant steroid and human growth hormone abuse has got some in Washington interested in intervening if MLB does not move quickly to clean up its act.

At what point, if ever, do you think Congress should involve itself in regulating illegal doping in baseball?

I do not believe Congress should inject itself in the internal rules of Major League Baseball. Anabolic steroids are considered a Schedule III controlled substance, and any individual, baseball player or not, may possess them with a prescription. Using them without a prescription is already against the law. Major League Baseball must respond to its customers (fans) like any other business, and I don’t believe Congress needs to tell them what their rules should be.
