District invites parents to discuss rezoning schools
Parents get their chance to ask Newport-Mesa Unified School District administrators questions regarding proposed school reconfigurations at six public workshops presented through January and early February.
Deputy Supt. Paul Reed and Assistant Supt. Susan Astarita will discuss standardizing all elementary school grade levels to kindergarten through sixth grade and all middle schools to seventh and eighth grade.
District staff members suggest converting Davis Elementary School into one with a curriculum focused on a special skill, or magnet school.
Meeting locations are designated by their high school zones.
Newport Harbor zone: 9 a.m., Jan. 9 at Mariners Elementary School
Estancia zone: 9:30 a.m., Jan. 14 at Estancia High School
Corona del Mar zone: 9 a.m., Jan. 18 at Corona del Mar High School
Costa Mesa zone: 10 a.m., Feb. 1 at Sonora Elementary School
Two more meetings will be scheduled in January at Costa Mesa and Estancia high schools.
