Volcom film festival needs entries from under-18 kids

The Newport Beach Film Festival is seeking young, creative filmmakers to submit entries for its 2008 Youth Film Showcase, presented by Volcom, the local snow, surf and skateboard clothing company.

Volcom has sponsored the showcase for the past three years, awarding cash prizes for artistic excellence in filmmaking.

Participants in the competition must be 18 years or younger. Individuals, film groups or student classes may submit live action or animated short films.

Entries will be accepted in all genres, including drama, romance, comedy, documentary, action sports, experimental, musical and science fiction.

Richard Woolcott, president and chief executive of Volcom, said in a written statement that his company is proud to be presenting the showcase, an event they consider to be an exciting and important part of the Festival.

Deadline for entries is Jan. 25, and can be submitted at www.withoutabox.com.

Films that qualify for the festival, taking place April 24 to May 1, will screen at the Regency Lido Theatre and the Edwards Island Cinema in Fashion Island.
