On Monday, Democrats in the California State Assembly approved AB 1x, the bill negotiated by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative Democrats, that will supposedly fix health care in California. I voted against this bill because by all accounts, AB 1x will do little more than put a giant strain on the already bursting-at-the-seams state budget.

For example, the estimated cost of implementing the programs described in this bill is $14 billion. That price tag is staggering enough. However, once begun, the costs of virtually all government programs only increase. There is no reason to think these new programs will be any different.
