OCC economics professor Michael Olds will be recognized as the college’s Part-Time Faculty Member of the Year in April, school officials announced.

Olds, 67, has been an OCC professor since 1983 and retired last year. He continues to teach part time at the school.

OCC staff members and faculty chose him for the honor. One of Olds’ students, Chelsea Smith, nominated him for the honor. He was previously nominated for full-time Faculty Member of the Year.

Olds was born in the Netherlands and married an American diplomat. He received his degree in international relations from Princeton University. Though he originally wanted to travel for his profession, he and his wife ended up settling in California. He taught at Moorpark College for two years and was an instructional designer for Coastline Community College from 1976 to 1983.

Olds will be recognized on April 3 in a ceremony in OCC’s student lounge.
