Celebrating on New Year’s — three times

You have nothing on Ryan Wyn’s birthday present.

When most people may get some flowers or some new clothes for their birthday, Wyn’s wife, Cynthia Huang, literally gave him the gift of life.

On New Year’s Day at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Wyn’s gift was delivered — a beautiful 5-pound, 13-ounce girl, one of the first babies in Southern California in 2008.

“It messed up my birthday,” Wyn said jokingly. “Now every year it will be all about her.”

As if one birthday on the first day of the new year weren’t interesting enough for the Irvine family, now they have two on Jan. 1. Tiny Kristen Wyn was born at 4:18 a.m.

“We weren’t planning on having the baby today, but it was a nice surprise,” Huang said, no doubt tired from the early wake up call from her new daughter.

Huang’s motherly instincts had told her Kristen was going to come before her due date near the end of the month, but even this caught mom by surprise.

“We weren’t even packed,” she said. The family was asleep before midnight Tuesday, but not Kristen.

Just after 1 a.m., Kristen let her mother know she was on the way while celebratory pops and crackles rang outside.

“I was actually pretty calm. I just asked [Huang] ‘are you sure? We’re not even ready,’” Wyn said. “There wasn’t a lot of time to think.”

Kristen is the pair’s second child. They also have a 2-year-old son, Evan.

“This completes the family,” Huang said.
