Since 2000, OCC students have called a set of 32 portable buildings on the north end of campus their library.

Thursday, students will finally be able to walk into their new, $35 million library.

The 88,777-square-foot, two-story library is the largest OCC building and can hold more than 128,000 volumes of books and periodicals.

The new library is being funded by $21 million in state money and $14 million from Measure C, approved by voters in Nov. 2002.

The OCC Friends of the Library had set a $500,000 goal and was well on its way as the new year came in.

A $250,000 grant from the Associated Students of Orange Coast College Board and a $10,000 donation from the Orange County Teachers’ Federal Credit Union put them two-thirds of the way there.

A formal dedication ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 5.
