MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Elephant Bar Tournament

SANTA BARBARA — The UC Irvine men’s volleyball team was upset by No. 13 Stanford, 30-21, 30-28, 24-30, 24-30, 15-10, Friday in the semifinals of the tournament at UC Santa Barbara.

The No. 5-ranked Anteaters (2-1) also defeated No. 14 UC Santa Barbara in the first round, 30-21, 30-26, 28-30, 35-33.

UCI junior outside hitter Taylor Wilson had a match-high 22 kills against the Gauchos, while Jordan DuFault added 14 and Cory Yoder had 13. Freshman Anthony Spittle had 57 assists.

The Anteaters will face Long Beach State today at 4 p.m. in the tournament’s third-place match.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Pasadena City 82,

Orange Coast 78

PASADENA — Shaun Engle scored a team-high 18 points for the Pirates in the nonconference game Friday night.

Brian Gee added 15 points for OCC (4-13).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal State Fullerton 69,

UC Irvine 66

IRVINE — Kelly Cochran finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in the Anteaters’ Big West Conference opener Friday night.

Stephanie Duda also had a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, for UCI (4-9, 0-1 in conference), which allowed Cal State Fullerton (2-10, 1-0) to end a nine-game losing streak.
