ANAHEIM — Senior forward Morgan DeQuillien scored in the 40th minute, but the Sailors could not overcome the loss of junior Scott Figueroa in a Sunset League game Friday.

DeQuillen’s goal gave the Sailors a 1-0 lead, but the Aztecs tied it up in the 60th minute. Then, five minutes later, a ball struck Figueroa in the face and knocked him unconscious, “for a few minutes,” Newport Harbor Coach Ryan Hernandez said.

“That was a scary moment,” Hernandez said.

Figueroa was stabilized and taken to a nearby hospital. Hernandez said Figueroa was moving his fingers and feet, but was in pain, especially in the rain and cold.

The Aztecs scored twice after Figueroa’s exit.

Senior Eric Guevera had three saves for the Sailors (2-8-1, 0-2-0 in league), and senior Will Reichenstein played a great game as a defender, Hernandez said.

Newport Harbor will play host to Edison Wednesday at 5 p.m.
