High school golfers vie to qualify in shot from top

Golfers from Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Estancia and Newport Harbor will compete in a qualifying round Monday morning for the upcoming Toshiba Classic Shot from the Top.

Each school will have co-ed teams of two and they will be among 18 high school teams from Orange County that will compete at the Newport Beach Country Club for the opportunity to participate in the Shot from the Top event on March 4. Monday’s qualifying event will be a closest-to-the-pin contest from 100 yards away on the 18th hole of Newport Beach Country Club. The top eight teams from the qualifying round will advance to the rooftop event at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel on March 4. Each school that participates in the qualifying round will receive a minimum of five laptop computers from Toshiba.

On March 4, the final eight teams will compete from the top of the Marriott, hitting down to the 2nd green of Newport Beach Country Club.
