Newport police are searching for a man who assaulted another man and continued to ram his truck into the victim’s sport utility vehicle Thursday night, police said.

The man is described as 25, white, 6-foot-2, 230 pounds with a buzz cut, police said. He drove a Ford F-150 pickup with extra cab, Sgt. Evan Sailor said. The victim gave police a partial license plate of 5V0063.

The assault occurred in the parking lot of the Union Bank of California, 1501 Westcliff Drive, Newport Beach. The victim was heading to the bank when he noticed he was being tailgated.

The driver followed the Costa Mesa man to the bank in an apparent road-rage incident, and at the bank the two men began a shouting match, police said.

The assailant attacked the man, punching him three times — causing minor injuries — before retreating to his vehicle, Sailor said.
