WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 83, Westmont 63

SANTA BARBARA — Senior Melissa Cook scored 21 points to lead the No. 3-ranked Lions, who won their 51st straight Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season game Saturday at Westmont.

Senior Jessica Richter produced a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Lauren Gregory added 19 points for Vanguard (9-2, 5-0 in conference).

The Lions were 21 of 23 from the free-throw line for 91.3%. Cook (nine for nine), Gregory (four for four), senior Lindsey Rinke (two for two) and sophomore Bridgette Reyes (two for two) were all perfect from the foul line.

Annie Johnson scored 14 points to lead the Warriors (10-3, 2-3).

Vanguard plays host to San Diego Christian Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Anteaters finished 18 for 64 from the field (28.1%) in their Big West Conference road game Saturday.

Senior forward Stephanie Duda, who was three of 11 from the field, led UCI (4-13, 0-3 in conference) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. It was Duda’s 10th double-double, which leads the Big West.

Senior Miranda Forry had 10 points off the bench for UCI.

Cal Poly (7-9, 4-0) shot 57.1% from the field and had 31 assists compared to UCI’s eight.

SANTA BARBARA — Sophomore Kevin Heenan made six of eight three-point field goal attempts to pace the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference road game Saturday.

Vanguard made seven of 11 from beyond the arc in the first half and finished 12 for 20 (60%). Vanguard (9-4, 3-2 in conference), shot 63.2% overall, as Heenan, a Newport Harbor High product, led six Lions in double-figures with 19 points.

Westmont is 7-6, 1-4.

IRVINE — Taylor Wilson had 18 kills and Anthony Spittle delivered 50 assists for the Anteaters but the Cardinal won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match, 30-28, 23-30, 30-28, 30-28, Saturday at Crawford Court.

Cody Yoder added 14 kills and Kevin Carroll had 13 kills for No. 7-ranked UCI (3-3, 1-1 in the MPSF).

Matt Ceran led No. 5-ranked Stanford (3-1, 1-1) with 18 kills.
