Students from Costa Mesa, Estancia and Newport Harbor high schools will compete Monday against fellow high school golfers from around the county in an accuracy contest at Newport Beach Country Club.

In the qualifying round of the 2008 Toshiba Classic “Shot from the Top” competition, 18 pairs of golfers from Orange County high schools will be in a closest-to-the-pin contest at the 18th hole at Newport Beach Country Club. The top eight teams will then advance to the “top” on March 4. There, each team will take shots from top of the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel down to the second green at the country club. The winning teams will compete for up to 20 laptop computers for their respective schools.

The closest-to-the-pin contest will be from 100 yards away on the 18th hole. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday. The Newport Beach Country Club is at 1600 E. Coast Highway in Newport Beach.
