Attention disorders to be discussed at UCI lecture

UCI cognitive sciences assistant professor John Serences will explain today how his research may help diagnose attention disorders in people, school officials announced Tuesday.

Serences has been studying how the brain reacts to its own expectations, goals and past experiences when focusing on objects. When the brain is looking for things to go in a certain direction, it is more responsive to objects moving that way no matter location, shape, size or color, his study suggests.

Serences will speak at the School of Social Sciences’ dinner club event at 6 p.m. today in the University Club Library. Reservations are required, and tickets are $40 a person.
