LONG BEACH — Freshman Kevin Carroll recorded a career-high 15 kills for the No. 7-ranked Anteaters in their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation loss to host Long Beach State, ranked No. 5, Wednesday night.

UCI junior Taylor Wilson added 13 kills and two aces against the 49ers, who won, 36-34, 30-28, 30-24.

Freshman setter Anthony Spittle amassed 39 assists and an ace for the Anteaters (3-4, 1-2 in the MPSF).

Paul Lotman led Long Beach State (5-0, 3-0) with 17 kills.

UCI plays host to UC San Diego Saturday at 7 p.m. at Crawford Court.

Fullerton 92, Orange Coast 61

FULLERTON — Freshman Brian Helmuth came off the bench to lead the Pirates with 13 points in their Orange Empire Conference game at Fullerton Wednesday night.

Sophomores Nicholas Milan and Tres Saldivar added eight points each for OCC (4-16, 0-3 in conference).

Wayne Andrews and Justin Carter scored 15 points each to lead the Hornets (15-5, 2-1), who outrebounded the Pirates, 47-35.

OCC plays host to Riverside Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
