Insurance goal lifts Bruins
An insurance goal by Mark Clifford with 9:17 to play, coupled with a defense that didn’t give up a score in the final nine minutes of a Howe Division matchup against the Patriots, allowed the Bruins to come away with a 6-4 victory at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.
After the Patriots cut the Bruins lead to 5-4 on a goal by Jonathan Carlson — it was Carlson’s second score of the match — with 14:28 to play, Clifford gave the Bruins some breathing room when he scored off an assist from Jason Saenz to make it 6-4.
The Bruins defense shut down the Patriots the rest of the way.
In addition to his assist, Saenz led all scorers with three goals.
Luke Barrett and Kian Nafison also scored for the Bruins, Clifford also picked up a pair of assists and Savannah Patton had 31 saves.
Like Carlson, Jeremy Corwin also scored twice and added an assist for the Patriots.
Sean Mastro recorded 18 saves.
