HUNTINGTON BEACH — Senior Kyle Caldwell scored 47 points to break the Sailors’ single-game scoring record that helped offset the Vikings’ 17 three-pointers in a Sunset League game Friday night.

Caldwell not only broke the school record of 42 points, he also grabbed 20 rebounds for Harbor (12-9, 2-3 in league).

Senior Joe Eberhard added 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists for CdM (15-4, 4-0 in league), which plays Villa Park tonight at 8 p.m. at Century High.

NEWPORT BEACH — Kate Klippert scored three goals for the Sailors, ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, but the No. 4 Bruins pulled off the upset in a nonleague game Friday.

Klippert scored twice on penalty shots, and the Sailors (16-3) got goals from Erin Reid, Elizabeth Wheeler and Nicolina McCall.

Five Counties Invitational

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Newport Harbor High senior Josh George won his first 140-pound match at the prestigious tournament Friday before losing two close matches and being eliminated on the first day of the two-day event at Fountain Valley High.

George went into the tournament 28-0 and was the lone Newport-Mesa Unified School District wrestler competing in an event featuring the best in the state.

George opened the event by beating Brent Earley of Western, 18-0. Then in his next match against El Diamante’s David Watts, the top-ranked 140-pounder in the state, George fell, 10-7.

The third match against RJ Pilkington of El Dorado came down to the closing seconds, with Pilkington winning, 9-8.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Goalie Eric Guevera recorded six saves to help the Sailors tie after two 10-minute overtime periods in a Sunset League match Friday at Marina.

Coach Ryan Hernandez said defender Will Reichenstein also played a great game for the Sailors (3-10-2, 1-4-1 in league).

IRVINE — Kayla Marolt scored five points and Jessica Brockett added four points for the Sea Kings in a Pacific Coast League game Friday night.

The Sea Kings (7-15, 0-4 in league) were without point guard Susan Moheimani. She was out with an injured ankle.
