Talbots company closing its kids’ and men’s stores

The Talbots Kids store closed at South Coast Plaza this week, shortly after the Massachusetts-based corporation announced its plan to shut its men’s and children’s stores by September.

The company announced Jan. 4 that it planned to phase out the Talbots Kids and Talbots Mens stores throughout the coming months after a lengthy internal review of its business that started last year.

“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who over the years invested considerable time and effort in developing Talbots Kids and Mens,” Chief Executive Trudy F. Sullivan said in a release. “Regrettably, we must make these difficult decisions that will help grow and improve our core business.”

The South Coast Plaza store, one of 66 Talbots Kids outlets in the country, was located near Carousel Court on the ground level.
