LOS ANGELES — Junior outside hitter Taylor Wilson had 19 kills and freshman Cory Yoder added a career-high 16 to help the No. 10-ranked Anteaters earn a 30-28, 30-26, 27-30, 30-24 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation road victory Friday.

Freshman Kevin Carroll contributed 12 kills, while Yoder, whose father, Bob, played for USC’s 1977 NCAA championship team and coached the Trojans to the NCAA crown in 1988, hit .469 to help UCI improve to 5-5, 3-3 in the MPSF.

Freshman setter Anthony Spittle amassed 57 assists for the winners.

No. 11-ranked USC fell to 4-5, 3-3.

COSTA MESA — Brian Gee, Shaun Engle, and Brian Helmuth all scored in double figures to lead the Pirates to an Orange Empire Conference win over Saddleback Friday night.

The Gauchos (9-14, 1-4 in conference) committed nearly twice as many turnovers as the Pirates (5-16, 1-3), who had 13. Saddleback had 23 turnovers.

The Pirates hit seven of 26 three-point attempts, while the Gauchos were 0 for 10 from behind the arc.

Gee led with 19 points, while Engle had 16 points and three assists. Helmuth had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Orange Coast is at home Monday against Riverside.
