Clara Jane Teeple Lake

Clara Jane Teeple Lake, 91, born July 4, 1916 in Rockford, IL, to Carrie Kvarme Teeple and Glenn Raymond Teeple of Belvidere, IL, died in her home at Thousand Palms, CA on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Clara Jane was raised in Belvidere with her two sisters, Charlotte (Grey), Harriette (McGinn), and her brother, Harold (Teeple). In August of 1939 she was joined in marriage to LaVerne Floyd Lake. Their only child, Roger Harrison, was born October 24, 1940.

In 1951 the family moved to Corona del Mar, CA. There Clara Jane became active in the local Women’s Club and established the Grant Howell Youth Center. She played golf and bridge and, with her husband Vern, was quite active in a couples potluck group “The Forty-niners”. She always maintained her membership in the Adeline Chapter #118 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Belvidere. In 1976 Vern retired and they moved to Thousand Palms, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband and son, her sisters and brother. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Glee Lake of Colorado; grandson Robert Thomas, wife Linda Sue and great-grandson Tyler Ross; grandson David Glenn, wife Deborah Anne and great-granddaughter Sydney Jane and great-grandson Harrison Glenn, all of California; niece Marsha Wolenski and family and nephew Terry Teeple, wife Lin and family of California; sister-in-law Fern Larson of Loves Park, IL, and brother-in law Kenneth Lake and wife Dorothy of Las Vegas, NM; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends in California and Illinois.

Clara Jane will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, always caring for her husband, son and grandchildren before herself. Her love was unconditional and steadfast. Whenever she was asked how she was, she would always smile and say, “I’m just fine.”

We will miss you greatly, Clara Jane; wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend... we love you.
