SANTA ANA — Sophomore Courtney Ford scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game at the Saints’ gym Wednesday.

Sophomore Katie Kissee had 17 points, including three three-pointers, while sophomore Brittany Taylor finished with 10 points for Orange Coast (21-3, 5-1 in conference), ranked No. 3 in Southern California and No. 5 in the state.

The Pirates, who held the Saints to 22.8% shooting from the field (13 of 57), are in first in the OEC.

Santa Ana (15-7, 4-2) is in a three-way tie with Irvine Valley and Fullerton.

Orange Coast plays host to Irvine Valley Friday at 5:30 p.m.

SANTA ANA — Freshman Brian Helmuth amassed 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference road game Wednesday.

Helmuth made nine of 14 field-goal attempts and also had four assists for the winners (6-17, 2-4 in conference), who have won two of their last three conference games.

Freshman Matthew Ching added 17 points for OCC, which rallied from a five-point halftime deficit.

Santa Ana fell to 9-15, 1-5.
