HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sailors senior center Kyle Caldwell had a team-high 28 points and added eight rebounds in the big Sunset League victory Wednesday at Edison High.

Senior Travis Kuhns had 18 points, six assists and made key free throws down the stretch for Newport Harbor (14-9, 4-3 in league). The Sailors, Edison and Esperanza are now all 4-3 in league, a three-way tie for second place behind Los Alamitos.

Junior guard Amy Gentling scored a team-high 15 for Costa Mesa (15-8, 5-1 in league), the No. 4-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA coaches’ poll.

LAGUNA BEACH — Freshman Kassie Stratton scored 22 points and the visiting Eagles outscored the Breakers, 34-23, in the second half to force overtime. But fortune failed to smile on Estancia’s bid to upset the Orange Coast League co-leader.

Estancia (3-20, 0-6 in league) missed the front end of a one-and-one free-throw situation with 15 seconds left in regulation, then was fouled again and missed two foul shots that could have ended it in regulation.

In overtime, Estancia stole the ball in the closing seconds with the score tied, but missed a shot and fouled on the rebound.

Laguna Beach (9-10, 5-1) made a free throw with seven seconds left to remain tied for first with Costa Mesa.

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior Heather Van Hiel collected four goals, three assists and two steals to help the Sea Kings complete an unbeaten season in the Pacific Coast League and claim the league crown.

Junior Victoria Kennedy had two goals, two assists, two steals and two goalie saves for the winners (16-5, 4-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

Senior Allison Peotter had three goals, two steals and two goalie saves for CdM.

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors clinched at least a share of the Sunset League title with their victory Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

Sophomore Kate Klippert had three goals, an assist and four steals for Newport Harbor (18-3, 4-0 in league). Senior Erin Reid also had three goals for the Sailors, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division I, while senior Annie Savoji and sophomore Kaleigh Gilchrist had two each.

NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor High senior Josh George won his match at 152 pounds to finish the Sunset League dual-meet season unbeaten and improve to 34-3 overall Wednesday.

Junior Cameron Rausch pinned his heavyweight foe in 75 seconds, while Sailors teammates Guillermo Perez (pin at 189 pounds), junior Blake Albano (130 pounds) and junior Andy Fischer (145 pounds) also posted wins for the Sailors (10-7, 1-4 in league).
