Condo kitchen fire erupts; units suffer water damage

No one was hurt, but a kitchen fire displaced several residents in a condominium complex Tuesday, firefighters said Wednesday.

The blaze broke out about 7:08 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Paris Lane, a section of the condo complex, officials said.

When Newport Beach firefighters arrived, several residents were outside and the fire alarm blared, Capt. Ron Gamble said. Everyone was directed to the second floor of the three-story unit by someone who lived in the unit on fire, Gamble said.

The flames apparently broke out in the home’s kitchen area, the resident told fire authorities.

The first engine to arrive at the home found smoke and flames, but a sprinkler system contained the fire, Gamble said.

Firefighters then evacuated everyone.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames to that single unit, mainly due to the sprinkler system, although several of the first-floor units suffered water damage, authorities said.

Red Cross officials were contacted to help families displaced by the fire. What caused the fire and a cost estimate of the damage have not yet been determined, officials said.
