Longboard Crew holds Pier Paddle Race

The Huntington Beach Longboard Crew will stage its 22nd annual Pier Paddle Race at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Interested participants can sign up for the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier at the shoreline.

The Paddle Race is free to dues-paying members of the crew but a $5 donation is recommended for entrants who aren’t members.

Awards will be given to competitors who finish between first- and sixth- place.

? Final Oilers alumni volleyball games set

Longtime Huntington Beach High boys’ and girls’ volleyball coach Rocky Ciarelli will be involved with his final alumni game when Oilers players past and present reunite for game action on March 1.

The alumni game will be the last in a series that first started in 1985.

At 4 p.m. that day, the first match is an alumni vs. alumni setup, followed at 6 p.m. by an alumni vs. the 2008 Oilers’ boys’ team.

Alumni, and parents, are welcome to the event.

The program will hold a post-event reception at 8:30 p.m. at Baci Restaurant in Huntington Beach.
