A 28-year-old Cypress man was arrested Thursday after leading Newport Beach police in a pursuit that took them through Costa Mesa’s East Side, police said.

About 3 a.m., Newport Beach police began pursuing Justin Robert Aaron in a stolen white 2006 Toyota Scion station wagon off the Balboa Peninsula toward Costa Mesa, Newport Beach Sgt. Evan Sailor said. Aaron led police down Newport Beach Boulevard into Costa Mesa, police said.

A short time later, three Costa Mesa police units joined the pursuit, Costa Mesa Sgt. Bryan Wadkins said. Aaron drove north on Orange Avenue and lost control turning right onto Mesa Drive, where he crashed onto the Santa Ana Country Club, Wadkins said. Police arrested Aaron after a short foot pursuit, Sailor said.

Aaron, who was on parole, will be charged with felony evading arrest and vehicle theft, Sailor said.

Aaron pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and felony spousal abuse in 2003 and pleaded guilty to resisting a police officer in 2006, according to public records.

The vehicle was reported stolen to the Orange County Sheriff Tuesday, Sailor said.
