The Pacific Symphony will welcome Frank Sinatra Jr., joining pops conductor Richard Kaufman for a Valentine’s Weekend concert schedule. Sinatra will include a selection of his father’s love songs.

Sinatra Jr. worked for many years as his dad’s musical director. Kaufman commented, “Not many people know this but Frank Jr. used to conduct for his father, so no one knows the style and feel of the Sinatra music better.”

The concert series runs Feb. 14-16. For ticket information call 714.755.5799 or visit www.pacificsymphony.org.

In other PSO society news, the PSO League is preparing to throw a splendid Oscar Night party, with or without writers.

The ladies and gents in charge are calling on the glamour of the glory days of Tinsel town, pre-drug rehab and young celebs serving time for driving under the influence, abandoning their children, and worse. Not that life was so simple for Mommie Dearest and the previous crowd.

In any event, it’s still great to fantasize about the glorious past, so it’s a perfect party theme. The 80th Academy Awards are presently scheduled for Feb. 24, we’ll see if they come off.

The party, however, can not be stopped. Local star Jim Roberts is set to emcee at The Balboa Bay Club & Resort. This OC event is actually one of just 52 official parties sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I’m not sure what that means except perhaps if you are having your own party you are clearly unsanctioned, possibly committing a crime.

Lynn Hackman, PSO League president offers, “This will be one of the sexiest, most exciting charity events of the year.” As a further explanation of the “sanctioned events,” the Academy works with charities all across the nation helping to raise funds for needed local causes using Oscar night as a major draw.

Last year alone the sanctioned events raised some $3 million for charity, all of the funds staying in each community in which it was raised. Tickets to the PSO Oscar night in the O.C. are $250. Call Sandra Gee at (714) 876-2363 for info and reservations.

The O.C.’s red-headed dynamo Gloria Zigner is calling CHOC Follies XI “Waiting for Chocman.” She says, “It is a musical mockumentary!” Starring a cast of O.C.’s celebrated business, social and civic leaders the show debuts March 13 running through the 15th at Chapman University’s nostalgic Memorial Auditorium.

Directed by John Vaughn with musical direction by Doug Austin and choreography by Lee Martino, the creative team returns for another year of showbiz that translates in “big bucks” to help the kids at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Co-chaired by the incredible trio Leslie Cancellieri, Sandy Segerstrom Daniels and Dale Skiles the gang will gather at the Segerstrom residence Feb. 20 for an eleventh annual CHOC follies underwriting party.

For more information on the show, underwriting opportunities, and to reserve tickets call associate producer Lois Augustine at the CHOC Foundation (714) 532-8690.

THE CROWD runs Thursdays and Saturdays.
