COSTA MESA — Landon Draper, Sea Novin, Kevin Saenz, Pat Lamb and Kevin Tran each recorded victories in singles to help the short-handed Pirates to a nonconference win in their season opener Tuesday.

OCC played with five players instead of the required six, as did El Camino. So there was no No. 6 singles match and no third doubles match.

Pirates’ first-year coach Chris Ketcham said his team will be at full strength on Thursday when OCC plays host to Los Angeles Pierce. Some OCC players have needed their eligibility confirmed, Ketcham said.
