RESTAURANT ROUNDUP:
Javier’s Cantina and Grill, a popular Mexican restaurant that closed in Laguna Beach last year, plans to open this weekend at the Crystal Cove Promenade in Newport Beach.
The restaurant, founded in 1995 by Javier Sosa, also operates locations in Irvine and Mexico. The new restaurant at 7832 E. Coast Hwy., which features a seaside view, a fireplace and private rooms for small weddings and parties, is scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Saturday.
“It is very exciting,” said Omar Sosa, the owner’s son and one of many family members who works for the restaurants. “It’s a little nerve-racking, but we’re very excited as well.”

Restaurants prepare Valentine’s Day menus
It may be a weeknight, but when Valentine’s Day comes around next Thursday, restaurants throughout Newport-Mesa plan to have specials ready.
The Yard House, which operates locations at Triangle Square and Fashion Island, has a self-proclaimed “aphrodisiac” menu Feb. 14 through 16, with three courses including appetizers, main courses and dessert along with martinis. The menu will be offered for lunch and dinner, and no reservations are required. Call (949) 727-0959 for more information.
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, also at Fashion Island, plans to offer a Valentine’s menu Feb. 14 through 17, with a choice of Porterhouse steak, or puff pastry with lobster, both intended to be shared by two people, along with dark chocolate Frangelico fondue.
Call (949) 720-9633 for more information.
