Eric Ferraro became the career assists leader in the Edison High boys’ basketball program Jan. 30.

Ferraro set the new record at 354 on an alley-oop pass to Carl Eberts in the first quarter of a 63-60 Sunset League loss to visiting Newport Harbor.

Ferraro, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, is a two-year starter and three-year varsity player for the Chargers.

“He sees the court so well and is able to deliver the ball just at the right time even when it seems impossible,” Edison Coach Rich Boyce said of Ferraro. “Very hard-nosed and tough kid. I am very proud of the player and person he has turned out to be.”

Entering this week’s action, the final week of Sunset League play, sophomore guard Kyle Boswell needed only 11 more points to become Edison’s single-season scoring record holder, Boyce said. That record, 591 points, is held by Brandon Jessie.
