Museum to auction 100 paintings Laguna Art Museum will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its founding organization, the Laguna Beach Art Assn., with Auction 100, featuring 100 works from 100 Southern California artists who are making a difference in art today.

The auction will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 16; works will be on display at the museum beginning Saturday , where they will hang until the auction.

Items are also available for viewing and bidding on the museum’s Web site.

Works range from a Marnie Weber photographic collage to a ceramic and wood sculpture by Richard White. Other genres include oil, watercolor and mixed media.

The auction will be run by auctioneer Chuck Dreyer; a buffet dinner, drinks and curbside valet parking are including with the price of admission.

Tickets for museum members are $125; non-members may attend for $150.

? College art students open their studios

Students in the Master of Fine Arts in Painting program at Laguna College of Art & Design will host the First Annual Graduate Open Studios from 2 to 7 p.m. Feb. 24.

The graduate studios are located at 775 Laguna Canyon Road. Limited complimentary and metered parking is available.

The open studio event provides an opportunity for visitors to preview works in progress and meet the artists in a comfortable and informal setting.

Each artist will be available to show their work, answer questions and discuss their artistic practice.

? Rohrer introduces Chinese artist

Rohrer Fine Art, 346 N. Coast Hwy, will introduce the public to Chinese artist Zeng Jianyong, 34, and his series, “Headers.” An opening reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. March 1, with the artist in attendance.

Jianyong captures childhood in this series of portraits.

His technique involves complicated Chinese watercolor fundamentals mixed with modern day transfer methods onto textured papers.

? Design house to open for viewing in April

The 2008 Philharmonic House of Design, located in Crystal Cove, is an 8,500-square foot home under construction by Stonefield Development. It offers spectacular ocean views, matched with the latest in design trends and techniques.

The Philharmonic House of Design is the primary fundraiser for the Philharmonic Society’s Youth Music Programs that present enrichment programs to more than 200,000 Orange County school children every year. Professional musicians and trained volunteers dedicate countless hours to this valuable program, offered free of charge to all schools in the county.

The House of Design will introduce Coastal Elegance with many exciting ideas whether you are remodeling, building new or just dreaming. Philharmonic Society member Kim Weddon of Huntington Beach heads the project as benefit chairwoman and designer Chris Kittrell of Newport Beach is ASID chairman.

The Philharmonic House of Design offers shopping in a unique boutique, lunching at the café, and attending a variety of interesting talks.

The house will be open April 22 through May 17. Advance tickets are $30 per person until April 18 and $35 thereafter for any day and time. Special Design House Pass for unlimited entry for one person is $40 if purchased by April 18 and $45 at the door.
