The following is from the Jan. 28 meeting of the Laguna Beach Arts Commission:

Music in the Park schedule approved

The commission approved the schedule for the 2008 Music in the Park concert series in Bluebird Park.

The concerts will be similar in format to the 2007 series, with the same number of performances, and will run from July 20 to Aug. 31.

The schedule will now go to the City Council for approval this month.

Sunset beach performances to be held

The commission approved a new “Sunset Serenade” series of four performances to be in the Cobblestone area of Main Beach May 9, 16, 23 and 30.

The performances, originally proposed by Commissioner Pat Kollenda, are intended for visitors to “stumble upon” during their trip to Main Beach, and will feature limited, if any, amplification.

Suggested instruments range from a guitarist to a string trio.

City hall competition guidelines approved

The commission approved the competition guidelines for the 2008 Banner and Art That’s Small at City Hall competitions.

The large-scale banners are displayed on city lampposts throughout the summer festival season.

The annual competition’s honorarium was increased last year from $500 to $2,000.

The annual juried Art That’s Small at City Hall exhibition and competition features art that measures no more than 12” along every edge of the work.

The guidelines will go to the City Council next for approval.
