Woman, 39, dies after crashing into park awning
A Corona Del Mar woman was killed in Newport Beach on Friday night when her vehicle hit a park awning, police said.
Sally M. Salavea, 39, was the sole occupant of the 2007 Saab when it drove through the T-intersection at San Miguel Drive and Ford Road at about 2:05 a.m. The vehicle continued off the roadway until it struck a metal awning in the parking lot of Bonita Canyon Sports Park.
It remains unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, investigators said.
Salavea was a planner with Planning Consultants Research, contributing her expertise to developing Environmental Impact Reports for a number of local Orange County cities.
Those with information that might assist the investigation are urged to contact Newport Beach Traffic Investigator Todd Bush at (949) 644-3746.
