Barkley “in the game†with EA Sports honor
Mater Dei High junior quarterback Matt Barkley, a Newport Beach resident, has been named to the EA Sports National All-American Football second team, adding to an already impressive year receiving national, regional and local accolades.
Barkley, who has given a verbal commitment to play at USC after he graduates, threw for 3,567 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Barkley was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year, the inaugural Joe Montana Quarterback of the Year, Trinity League MVP, and made the All-Southern California Football Coaches Assn. Pac-5 Division Offensive Team.
Barkley led the Monarchs to 9-2 overall, 3-1 in league, and the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division playoffs.
