Clemson 4, UC Irvine 3

IRVINE — UC Irvine (1-3) lost 4-3 to No. 33 Clemson Sunday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The Tigers won two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Victor Lamm and freshman Khunpol Issara defeated Rok Bizjak and Derek DiFazio 9-7 in the No. 1 match. Gera Boryachinskiy and Kevin Galloway clinched the doubles point for Clemson as they beat senior Ajay Ahluwalia and freshman Gautam Vaidyanathan 9-8 in the No. 3 match.

Clemson won the No. 6 and No. 5 matches to take a 3-0 lead. Victor Lamm cut the lead to 3-1 as he defeated Kevin Fleck 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Senior Alex Sundling defeated Rok Bizjak 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 1 match to cut the lead to 3-2. Boryachinskiy held off junior Trevor Dobson in a pair of tie-breakers to clinch the overall win for Clemson. Khunpol Issara won 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 over Ike Belk in the No. 4 match to make the final score 4-3.

The Anteaters travel to San Diego Friday to take on No. 73 San Diego at the USD West Tennis Courts.

UC Irvine 10, UC Santa Barbara 5

LA JOLLA — No. 9 UC Irvine (4-1) defeated Santa Barbara in the third-place game of the Triton Invitational at Canyonview Aquatic Center Sunday night.

The Anteaters took a 4-0 lead int he first period and never looked back.

No. 12 Loyola Marymount upset Irvine (3-1) to give the Anteaters their first loss of the season in the tournament semifinals.

Alex Wike scored the game-winning goal for LMU with 1:07 remaining in the match after Daisy Fish tied it at 8-8 with 2:45 left in regulation.

UCI had a 4-2 lead in the first period with junior Gianna Rossi scoring two goals. LMU cut the lead to 5-4 heading into the half.

The ‘Eaters returned and took a 7-5 lead with one quarter to play, but couldn’t hold on for the win. The Lions cut the lead to 7-6 25 seconds into the fourth as Nicole Hughes scored for LMU.

The Anteaters will face UCLA at Anteater Aquatic Complex Friday at 7 p.m.
