Man dies from car injuries

A 70-year-old Huntington Beach man was killed by a car this week as he crossed Bolsa Chica Street, police said.

Resident John Carpenter was crossing the street going east at Edinger Avenue about 5:37 p.m. Tuesday when a maroon Chevy Impala hit him, according to police.

Paramedics treated him and took him to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, but he died from his injuries, authorities said.

The Impala’s driver, Shirley Constants, 83, of Huntington Beach, suffered no injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, and no charges have been filed so far, according to police.

Police said the accident is still being investigated.
