Patriots, Bruins, Hawks victorious in Howe action

The Patriots began to pull away from the Diablos during the second period of their Howe Division match Tuesday at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach and went on to claim an 8-3 victory.

The Patriots scored three goals — two coming from the blade of Jeremy Corwin, the other from Ethan Simpson — and didn’t allow a single score in the period which took them from a 3-2 lead into a 6-2 advantage.

Corwin finished with three goals overall. Jonah Perez and Jonathan Carlson both scored twice. Perez also contributed two assists and Carlson, Matthew Chism and Jacob McKenna each had an assist.

Sean Mastro had 25 saves.

Alan Plummer had two goals and an assist to lead the Diablos. Corey Childers also scored and Ricky Zatarain finished with 26 saves.

In other Howe Division action:

Bruins 5, Storm 4

Jason Saenz scored twice during a third period where the Bruins defense kept the Storm off the scoreboard as they rallied for a one-goal victory.

Saenz also scored the first Bruins’ goal and added an assist.

Nicholas Thompson had a goal and assist, Mark Clifford scored once, and Savannah Patton had 24 saves.

Jake Grothjan posted two goals to pace the Storm on offense. Matthew Oyakawa and Riley Draghi both scored, and Nicholas Ashworth and Michael Kramer both had an assist.

Jadin Press recorded 18 saves.

Hawks 6, Rattlers 4

Andrew Schenker scored three consecutive goals over a two-period stretch as the Hawks got past the Rattlers.

Tyler Wilford scored twice, Alec Lang had a goal and two assists, Karson Derego had a pair of assists and Stuart Urbano had an assist for the Hawks.

Sam Prizler finished with 28 saves.

Sean Cullinane netted three of the four Rattlers goals.

Brent Rivera also scored, Kyle Kowalski had two assists and Brandon Albertson had one assist.

Kyle Aube registered 31 saves.
