ISU Indoor Classic

AMES, Iowa — UC Irvine junior Lauren Collins won the pentathlon with a school-record 4,087 points in the Iowa State University Indoor Track & Field Classic at the Lied Recreational Facility Thursday.

Collins’ total automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Her marks Thursday were 8.38 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, 5 feet, 11 1/4 inches in the high jump, 35-2 in the shot put, 18-8 1/2 in the long jump and 2:20.10 in the 800 meters.

Indiana State’s Erica Moore was second with 3,993 points and Missouri’s Kaela Rorvig was third with 3,761 in the 12-competitor field.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Orange Coast 9, Cuyamaca 0

COSTA MESA — The Pirates swept all nine matches in the nonconference match at OCC.

The doubles teams of Brittany Bass and Brittnie Furuvald, Evelyn Wallace and Kalin Eshelman, and Emily Garcia and Jasmine Mathieson combined to win 24 of 26 games for OCC (3-0). Wallace and Mathieson are Costa Mesa High products.

OCC plays host to Fullerton in its Orange Empire Conference opener on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UC Davis 69, UC Irvine 50

DAVIS — A power outage in the neighboring region delayed the start of the Big West Conference game more than two hours Thursday night.

Sophomore guard Rebecca Maessen and junior forward Kelly Cochran scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the visiting Anteaters, who fell to 6-19, 2-9 in conference.

Davis was led by Jessica Campbell’s 24 points.

UCI shot 40% from the field (20 of 50), but was just one of nine from three-point range (11.1%). The Anteaters had 24 turnovers, 11 more than the Aggies.

Davis shot 42.4% from the field and was 14 of 16 from the foul line.
