Man crashes Jetta into tree, investigators asking for info

A Newport Beach man was in serious condition at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana after he drove his car into a tree not far from his home Friday morning, Newport Beach police said.

At about 1:30 a.m., 32-year-old Justin Odegard was driving alone northbound on La Salud toward Bonita Creek Park in his Volkswagen Jetta when the car left the road and slammed into a pine tree.

No other cars were involved in the accident, and police said speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The accident’s cause remains under investigation.
