PALM DESERT — OCC sophomore outfielder Chris Fung was three for four with two runs scored and a double in Saturday’s nonconference win.

Wes Kartch, Mike Ferraro, Kyle Muhlsteff and Corona del Mar High product Austin Elliott all added a pair of hits for the Pirates (10-2-1). Another Sea King product, sophomore pitcher Matt Hauser, improved to 3-0.

COSTA MESA — Senior Jessica Richter had 23 points and nine rebounds for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Senior Melissa Cook chipped in 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, while junior Lauren Gregory had 15 points and seven boards for the No. 4-ranked Lions (18-3, 14-1 in conference).

No. 22-ranked Westmont fell to 17-6, 9-6.

STOCKTON — The visiting Anteaters led, 44-42, with 9:29 remaining, but were outscored, 25-6, the rest of the way Saturday at the Alex G. Spanos Center to fall to 6-20, 2-10 in the Big West Conference.

After Christina Zdenek’s two free throws broke a 42-42 tie, UCI went scoreless the next 6 minutes, 53 seconds.

UOP (11-14, 6-6) shot 51.9% from the field after halftime (14 of 27), while UCI shot 25% in the final 20 minutes (six of 24).

Senior Stephanie Duda led the visitors with 11 points and added 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals. It was her Big West-leading 15th double-double of the season.

COSTA MESA — Sophomore Dennis Heenan was six of eight from the field, including three of four from three-point range to finish with 21 points for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

Vanguard (16-7, 10-5 in conference) was nine of 23 from threedom, while Westmont (13-10, 7-8) made just one of 19 three-point tries.

Husky Indoor Classic

SEATTLE — UC Irvine sophomore Alisha Misiata placed third in the shot put with a mark of 48 feet, 2 3/4 inches Saturday at Dempsey Indoor Stadium.

Misiata finished 20th in the weight throw with a toss of 49-9 1/4 .

UCI’s Natasha Wardley placed 15th in the long jump with a mark of 17-11.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

USC 10, UC Irvine 3

IRVINE — Corona del Mar High products Tumua Anae and Jordan Anae had 10 saves and two goals, respectively, for the No. 3-ranked visitors Saturday in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.

UCI junior Gianna Rossi opened the scoring and it was 1-1 at halftime.

But USC outscored the Anteaters, 4-2, in the second period and 5-0 in the second half.

Newport Harbor High product Kally Lucas had one goal for USC. UCI goalie Lauren Machanis had nine saves.

UCI, ranked No. 10, fell to 4-3, 0-2, while USC is now 5-2, 1-0.

APU Indoor Events Qualifier

AZUSA — Vanguard sophomore Aze Perkins finished fourth in the 60-meter high hurdles Saturday at Azusa Pacific University, improving his NAIA Indoor Nationals qualifying time to 8.34 seconds. Perkins also bettered his own school record in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 8.17.

Lions sophomore Mike Hartanov finished in 1 minute, 25.63 seconds in the 600.

Hartanov also recorded a 2:38.33 in the 1,000.

Senior Jason Valenzuela debuted in the men’s 1,000, recording a personal-best of 2:38.79, and finished in 4:30.62 in the mile.

Freshmen Christian De Glymes and Darren Bruneck also debuted in the 1,000, establishing personal bests of 2:47.83 and 2:51.24 respectively.

Senior captain Stewart Ramsey cleared 13 feet, 7 1/2 inches, tying his season best in the pole vault.

On the women’s side, sophomore Burgandy Rhines and freshman Kelsey Thorn both cleared 5-1 in the women’s high jump, a season best for Rhines, and sophomore Kelsie Davis cleared 4-11.

Freshman Allie Armando ran a personal-best 8.35 in the 60, while freshman Kaylee Leadley (8.87) and Rhines (8.99) also placed.

Sophomore Heidi Morehouse cleared 9-6 1/4 in the pole vault, tying her season best.

The 4x400 relay of Rhines, sophomore Gina Attard, junior Cassie Plett and Davis ran 4:29.8.
