THE LAST WORD:

Usually when you see the numbers 666 you think of, well, the devil. Satan. Mephistopheles. Beelzebub. (OK, well, maybe not Beelzebub, but you don’t often get to work that word into an editorial, and we couldn’t resist the temptation).

Anyway, it’s because in the book of Revelations 666 is associated with the mark of the beast; or, basically, the devil.

If you grew up in Costa Mesa, chances are you associate 666 with Bethel Towers, the large apartment building for seniors. See, Bethel Towers has the unusual address of 666 W. 19th St.

Well, no more.

City officials and the apartment building’s managers changed the address to 678 W. 19th St. because it was a pain to a lot of residents. Can you imagine calling cable TV repairmen and saying your address starts with “666”? It would be like being named Harry Potter and having to put up with jokes every time you were introduced.

Speaking of magic, no, the building hasn’t moved. It just has a different address. It’s still the same old Beelzebub, er, we mean, Bethel Towers.
