Four from Estancia named to all-league first team

Senior forward Eric Duarte was named Orange Coast League Most Valuable Player to highlight four Eagles named first-team all-league in boys’ soccer.

Duarte, a captain who led the league in scoring with 10 goals (12 for the season), helped the Eagles reach the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs, where they lost, 1-0, to Santa Ana. Duarte was also third on the team with five assists. He was a first-team all-league performer as a junior.

The Eagles (11-7-3, 7-2 in league) were Orange Coast League champions for the second straight year, and reached the second round of CIF after losing in the first round for the last four years.

Junior midfielder Danny Martinez was a first-team pick with four goals and led the team with 10 assists.

Junior sweeper Rony Argueta, who kicked the game-winning goals in two of the Eagles’ most important wins of the season, had four goals this season. He also was a first-team selection. Argueta was a second-team honoree as a sophomore.

Junior midfielder Jose Reyes was joined on the first team by sophomore sweeper Earvin Bahena.

Junior midfielder Jose Garcia (three goals, five assists), senior defenders Ricardo Medina and Andrew Norimatsu, as well as junior defender Noe Marin all received second-team honors, while goalkeeper Andreas Villareal, who allowed 13 goals in 740 minutes of play, received honorable mention.

Junior forward Tony Flores, who was third on the team with five goals, junior left midfileder Aran Antunez, senior forward Jaun Becerra, and sophomore center midfielder Ricky Gomez (three goals, four assists) were received honorable mention. Flores made second-team all-league last season.
