Vanguard’s Heenan named Player of Week in GSAC

Vanguard University sophomore Dennis Heenan was named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the week in men’s basketball after the week ending Feb. 17.

The 6-foot-6 forward, a product of Newport Harbor High, averaged 17 points and five rebounds in conference wins over then-No. 5-ranked Concordia and Westmont.

For the week, Heenan made 11 of 18 field-goal attempts (61.1%), including six of 11 from three-point range. He also converted six of eight from the free-throw line.

The Lions are 18-8, 11-6 in conference. With three regular-season conference games remaining, they are in fourth place, two games out of first, in the 11-team conference.
