Costa Mesa softball tournament unfolds today

The Costa Mesa, Estancia and Sage Hill softball teams will all play their first tournament action of the year at the Costa Mesa Tournament, which begins today at Costa Mesa High and TeWinkle Park.

The Mustangs, headed by first-year Coach Marcus Franco, begin their tournament against Century today at 11 a.m. at TeWinkle Field No. 2. Mesa will play either Estancia or Saddleback Valley Christian in its second game of the tournament at 3 p.m.

Estancia, led by coaches Judd Fryslie and Tommy Rausch, opens with Saddleback Valley Christian today at 11 a.m. at TeWinkle Field No. 1.

Sage Hill, meanwhile, will face Santa Ana Valley High today at 9 a.m. at TeWinkle Field No. 2. The Lightning will then play either Ocean View or University, in the championship or consolation second round, at 1 p.m. at TeWinkle.

The semifinals and finals of the 16-team tournament are scheduled for March 8 at TeWinkle, with the championship game on March 8 at 1 p.m.
