College unloads surplus items on auction website

OCC is taking a trick out of eBay’s playbook to raise surplus sales.

The school will have Internet auctions of surplus goods, such as furniture, equipment and vehicles, to dispose of the items.

In the past, the school has made little money on its surplus sales, according to officials.

The school decided to switch from using a professional auction service and had its own auction last year to moderate success. This year the school is using www.publicsurplus.com for its Internet auction in hopes of generating more revenue.

Metal shelving, desks, book and display cases, file cabinets and a 1996 Crown Victoria with 92,000 miles on it will be for sale.

Bidding will last 14 days per item, unless otherwise extended.

Photos of the merchandise will be available on the website, which is free to use.

Items may be purchased with cash, check or money order and are picked up at the college.
