Bank Robbery Suspect Captured

Suspect: Daniel James Dunleavy, 60 year old resident of Long Beach, California

On Wednesday, March 5, at approximately 2:55 p.m., the depicted suspect entered the Bank of America located at 3300 E. Coast Highway, Corona del Mar and demanded money from a bank teller. The suspect threatened to have a bomb attached to him. The teller provided him with an undisclosed amount of cash and he exited the bank. A short time later, the suspect was located at Iris and E. Coast Highway sitting at a bus stop.

The suspect was arrested for 211 PC – Bank Robbery and was booked at the Newport Beach Police Department’s jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. The suspect was identified as Daniel Dunleavy. The FBI believes he may be the “Chinstrap Bandit” who was responsible for robbing banks in Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills and Long Beach. These crimes were committed in January and February 2008.
