Laguna Beach senior Marcus Hairston has been named the MVP on the 2008 All-Orange Coast League Boys’ Basketball Team.

Hairston, a senior point guard, averaged 10.6 points per game and was among the top 10 players countywide in assists per game with a 5.2 average.

“He was a well-rounded player who played terrific defense for us,” Laguna Coach Bret Fleming said. “He was our floor leader who set up our offense.

Hairston becomes the third Breaker in the past two years to take the league’s MVP honor; last year, Cheyne Martin and Brian Delino shared the award.

Hairston heads a group of four Breakers who made the all-league team. Seniors Kevin Buck and Kenny Sullivan, along with junior Ryan Lawler, made the first team. Junior Dylan Roley was a second-team selection.

Sullivan averaged 8.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, the latter of which ranked him among the top five in the county in that category. He also blocked 56 shots. Lawler averaged 10.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, Buck 10.4 points and had a team-best 51 three-point baskets, and Roley averaged 7.2 points.

“It was a well-rounded team,” said Fleming, whose Breakers finished 21-6 overall and won their second-straight Orange Coast League championship.
