Huntington Mayor wins 96% vote from the Dem. caucus

Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook won a nearly unanimous endorsement from the California Democratic Party’s regional endorsement caucus Thursday night, putting her on the “fast track” to winning the party’s endorsement, her staffers said.

Cook’s 96% exceeded the party’s 70% threshold, allowing her endorsement to be voted in an up-and-down consent calendar motion during the party’s annual convention in San Jose on March 28 to 30, as opposed to a vote following a floor debate of her candidacy.

“She got more votes than anyone else in the other districts, and almost had 100% from the other side of the district,” her spokesman Joe Shaw said. “That was pretty interesting.”

Cook said she was pleased with the results, but was keeping her eye on the prize.

“It’s nice, but I’ve got my eye on November,” she said.

Attempts to reach opponent Dan Kalmick were unsuccessful.
