Flaming garbage dumped on residential street
What’s worse than a pile of garbage on the street? How about a stack of trash that’s on fire?
That’s what residents on Kline Drive and Pegasus Street got a front seat to Wednesday afternoon when a garbage truck’s load caught fire.
About 12:40 p.m., someone flagged down a CR&R; Waste Services truck driver who apparently didn’t see the trash in his rig had caught fire. Orange County Fire Authority and Newport Beach firefighters responded.
Firefighters had the driver dump the trash in the middle of the street. There were no injuries or damaged homes, said Newport Beach fire spokeswoman Jennifer Schulz.
Firefighters could not determine the cause of the fire, but Schulz said trash fires are not uncommon.
