Newport scholarships available; deadline is May 2

Newport Beach is accepting applications for its annual academic scholarship program. Applications for the program are due 5 p.m. May 2 at the City’s Human Resources office, 3300 Newport Blvd.

Scholarship amounts vary from year to year, and the award may be used for tuition, books, laboratory fees, academic fees, and room and board.

Criteria used for selection includes scholastic standing, school or community leadership, submission of a 500-word essay on career and life plans and financial need.

Interested applicants can download an applications on the city’s website, www.city.newport-beach.ca.us, by selecting “Departments,” and then selecting “Human Resources.” Click on the Scholarship Program button in the left column for a copy of the application.
